Emerge Family Connections offers training for families and professionals about effectively parenting and caring for children from hard places. Trust Based Relational Intervention ® (TBRI ®) is a parenting and intervention model developed by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross at the TCU Institute of Child Development. TBRI ® is based on a solid foundation of neuropsychological theory and research, tempered by humanitarian principles. It is a family-based intervention that is designed for children who have experienced relationship-based traumas such as institutionalization, multiple foster placements, maltreatment, and/or neglect.
Emerge offers TBRI ® training as four modules. While it is best to attend the Introduction module before pursuing additional training, each module can offer valuable knowledge for parents and professionals. Each training module may be available as a full-day training, 4.5-hour training, or as a three-part series of 2-hour sessions.
Both Jill Crewes, MSW and Amanda Purvis, BSW, Co-Founders, have studied under Dr.Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross and their team at the TCU Institute of Child Development. They have both earned their TBRI ® Educator qualification from TCU. The training will utilize the TBRI ® curriculum developed by the Institute. Jill and Amanda have received advanced training regarding this curriculum and have been authorized to present the content.
“I have ...4 boys, and I was at the 6 weeks of having them "oh my goodness" point. Update, we are doing better, and what I have practiced from the TBRI principles have been amazing and are working. As I am sure you know, how truly life changing this program is, I can't even imagine where we would be without it. We just had our "Voices" meeting for the boys and everyone has been amazed at the differences they see in them in such a short time, lot's of praise when I told them about the program. Thank you so much!”
- Gina, foster to adopt parent of sibling group of four boys.
“Last night I went and watched the boys so they could go to their certification class and I felt like a walking textbook for implementing TBRI all evening! Not that I did it perfect at all, but I felt so equipped and had a blast connecting with those little boys! So...THANK YOU!! I loved having so many tools in my pocket and it made me so excited to potentially foster 'bigger kids' (aka, not babies) in the future!
- Chelsea, foster parent and respite provider.
